Set Render/Pattern/Sinus Permanently to FG and BG Colors

I saw your script to set the colorize default color permanently ( viewtopic.php?p=29685#p29685 ).

Downloaded it and tried to figure it out, but no. Can you modify this script to open Sinus and change the default colors in the Render/Pattern/Sinus dialog box to Foreground and Background colors, then allow me to set the other settings to finalize sinus? Or, would all the settings for sinus need to be chosen when the modified script is run? You also mentioned you could make the change stick after the first time it is run.

I found the sinus plug-in in the pdb browser and saw that under "colors," you can choose "1" for FG/BG, but I don't yet know how to implement python. All the other options for that plug-in show up on the sinus dialog box, except that choice.

I always set my FG and BG colors before opening sinus, then click on the color yellow color bar, then use the eye-dropper in the pop-up to choose FG from the little FG color box in the toolbox, then repeat with the blue color bar for the BG color.

No replies? Your wish is not possible, at least not without altering the Gimp source code.
That other post is about a python script. So that is editable. The current Gimp 2.10.x sinus is a GEGL function, not editable.

While the Gimp 2.10 GEGL functions are annoying in that settings are not retained even during the same session, never mind when Gimp is first opened, they do have a Preset function.
Better than nothing, set up your favourite colours and save as a preset.



An alternative is 'borrow' the Gimp 2.8 sinus plugin (a compiled plugin, not a script) which has a "use FG/BG" option but then you lose the GEGL on canvas rendering. This a Gimp 2.10.18

Thanks @rich2005, as usual, you have reasoned advice. It's always great when the graphics are included for those of us who find that visuals aid in learning.

"Your wish is not possible." I grew up in the 60s with a TV show called "I Dream of Jeannie," which was more along the lines of "Your wish is my command." Where's Barbara Eden when you need her?

I had discovered the presets, which I have been using for reworking this project, as it does indeed store the FG/BG colors. Because I shall have many of these projects in various colors, the color choosing would be nicer with the FG/BG button. Losing the on-canvas GEGL rendering would probably be a much greater loss. It's a shame the two versions can't be merged.

From your answer, I'll assume that all functions also having a canvas rendering function are also GEGL. I notice a small preview thumbnail on the 2.8 sinus version, which may work well enough. I can't remember if I ever used the sinus function in 2.8. I think I was still doing mostly old photo touch up/repair.

Would you share the 2.8 plug-in, or provide a safe link?

Assuming you have a Windows 64 bit operating system (always dangerous assuming anything )

Unzip the attachment, put sinus.exe in your User plugins folder.

GEGL filters have a (G) icon in the menus, separate plugins have the 'wheels' icon. That means you have a choice which to use.

Thanks @rich2005, for the legacy sinus plug-in. Installed it and am playing with it. The GEGL sinus distorts to a much greater level, all the way to colored noise, so I'll have to play around with the old version and make note of the settings for x, y, and complexity which are most similar to the GEGL settings I use.

I paid no attention to the G next to the filters. Had I noticed it, I would have assumed it was for GIMP.
